For example, this can be considered on the radio part - up to 20,000 rubles this is the basic option in terms of frequencies, from 20 to 40 thousand rubles - extended, and after 40 thousand rubles - the maximum. The division is conditional, in models that are borderline in cost, there may be both options for the radio part. However, exactly the same approach for any model is a set of minimum characteristics. That is, for such and such a cost, the model should have such and such characteristics.

Chargers that come with Samsung smartphones are of several types - old 5V / 2A, 15W fast charge (basic option for most models), 25W fast charge (most flagships come with it), separate 45 W charging (not included anywhere, by and large, not needed, niche accessory).

Starting in mid-2020, almost all new models come with USB Power Delivery 3.0 technology, which, in theory, allows you to use the same charger with different smartphones. And you won't see much of a difference. The puzzle has been formed, and, therefore, Samsung can refuse to charge? Not certainly in that way. The competition in the Android smartphone market is aggressive, and the refusal to charge in the kit will encourage Huawei, Xiaomi to emphasize that they not only do not refuse, but allow the buyer to save money, there is no need to buy anything separately. This means putting your own sales at risk, creating a negative situation for yourself. And Samsung will definitely not do this, or the company has suddenly and sharply become stupid (they didn’t refuse the fingerprint sensor, which is more expensive, but refuse to charge!). I regard such a scenario as very unlikely.

But can Samsung in some models refuse the charger in the kit? This may happen for base models that are intended for emerging markets, this will be an attempt to reduce the cost of the device. There is no question of any 5G models here, these are basic smartphones costing up to 10,000 rubles or even less. In a smartphone that is inexpensive, the cost of charging almost does not change in price, it turns out to be quite expensive (1.5 dollars from 50 dollars of the price is not 2.5 dollars from 400 dollars of the prime cost). And such experiments happen from time to time. But it is at least premature to talk about a total, mass rejection of chargers, this moment has not yet arrived.

The logic of market development is such that all manufacturers want to gradually switch to wireless charging, to abandon the charger connector. But for this, several things must happen, in particular, such charges must become faster and not overheat, as happens today in hot weather. The same rejection by Apple of the charger in the kit may be dictated by the fact that the company will release branded wireless charging for the first time and will try to say that you have an alternative - use a wire or charge your smartphone wirelessly. The innovation is so-so, but it will clearly be presented as a breakthrough, however, there is nothing new in this.

I think it's a bit premature to bury the chargers in the kit for Android smartphones. But I repeat, if Apple decides to abandon the chargers in the kit, they will put themselves under attack from both Samsung and all other companies.

The work turned out to be interesting, but I won’t be able to share it in full, since it is unlikely that the company that paid for the study will be delighted with it. But I can highlight some points, especially since I received permission for this.

The first discovery was that benchmarks can be found for almost any model on the market, there are no exceptions. The only question is the number of installations, here everything is also more or less logical. In Russia, Huawei/Honor comes first, then Samsung, then Xiaomi. The shares of companies in unit terms are approximately distributed in this way, so this is not surprising, the usual cut of the market, which plus or minus shows the distribution of shares. But you start looking at the numbers and notice the first oddity, on the flagships from Samsung, the number of installations of benchmarks (these are several typical applications, one of them is Antutu, at least one application from the list is taken into account) is very small, the feeling is that the measurement of virtual parrots does not bother their customers at all. There are only 4 installations for 10,000 such smartphones! We look at Huawei / Honor, here the situation changes dramatically - 37 installations of puzomerok. It's another matter that in absolute numbers it doesn't turn out so much, the share of flagships from these companies is low, it's a small fraction of the market.

In budget smartphones priced up to 10,000 rubles, the picture for all manufacturers is very similar, but most of all benchmarks are set by buyers of C-brands, here the dependence is direct, the less well-known brand, the more often it is “checked” by virtual parrots. This range is from 15 to 30 thousand rubles, here is the maximum number of installations.And if you look at the numbers by manufacturers, then Xiaomi will be the leader, the maximum variety of benchmarks and the feeling that for buyers of this brand, along with the box, they give instructions on how to measure performance daily and why this should be done. By the way, I will be glad if someone explains what the practical meaning of this approach is. Why periodically run a benchmark, what should it show and how to use this data in real life? On Twitter, I was told that Xiaomi users are simply squeezing the maximum out of their smartphones. I still don't understand how. Does the phone become proud of itself after each launch of the benchmark and does it get additional cores in the processor? Wings grow? Why is this needed?

There is no point in drawing any profound conclusions from these data. For us, they are of a completely applied nature, it was necessary to find people who love benchmarks and distinguish them among all smartphone manufacturers. Which was done, and the examples described above are a waste of rock in search of the necessary information. So I'm sharing, maybe it will be useful to you somehow, besides, it's just curious.

It's another matter that in absolute numbers it doesn't turn out so much, the share of flagships from these companies is low, it's a small fraction of the market.

In budget smartphones priced up to 10,000 rubles, the picture for all manufacturers is very similar, but most of all benchmarks are set by buyers of C-brands, here the dependence is direct, the less well-known brand, the more often it is “checked” by virtual parrots. Chinese smartphones are checked very often. But do you know in which price segment buyers simply love to measure the performance of their devices? This range is from 15 to 30 thousand rubles, here is the maximum number of installations.And if you look at the numbers by manufacturers, then Xiaomi will be the leader, the maximum variety of benchmarks and the feeling that for buyers of this brand, along with the box, they give instructions on how to measure performance daily and why this should be done. By the way, I will be glad if someone explains what the practical meaning of this approach is. Why periodically run a benchmark, what should it show and how to use this data in real life? On Twitter, I was told that Xiaomi users are simply squeezing the maximum out of their smartphones. I still don't understand how. Does the phone become proud of itself after each launch of the benchmark and does it get additional cores in the processor? Wings grow? Why is this needed?

There is no point in drawing any profound conclusions from these data. For us, they are of a completely applied nature, it was necessary to find people who love benchmarks and distinguish them among all smartphone manufacturers. The material can be interpreted in different ways, for example, as one of the pebbles addressed to Nokia and preparations for the takeover of the company by America. But the facts presented are consistent with reality, this is how it all happened.

When big telecommunications companies were just starting the 5G race, there was no clear understanding of what solutions would become the standard. This is a standard problem in every generation of communication systems, no one knows what will shoot, what frequencies will become dominant. As a result, it is necessary to quickly rebuild equipment and launch new lines. On the part of the operators, orders come one after another, and the requirements for the quality of equipment are superimposed on the desire to get it at the lowest cost.

When manufacturing equipment, you have many options, for example, in the industry it is customary to use SoCs, that is, microcircuits that are created for specific technical parameters of the system. They cannot be changed after production, and if you need other frequencies, then you will have to create new SoCs. But these are the dominant solutions in the industry, as they provide the ability to quickly design, launch in a series, are quite cheap, and are also energy efficient.

Nokia has been doing anything but business in recent years. Dreamers within the company optimized the composition of engineers, reduced the staff of the company to be as efficient as possible, this began at the time of the death of Nokia Mobile and continued in exactly the same way. The test for the infrastructure direction was the launch of 5G, these are long-term contracts that are signed for many years. Nokia made a bet on FPGA chips, their difference from SoC is that they can be reprogrammed at any time, they are much more complicated than SoC. Intel became the main supplier of such microcircuits, Nokia did not choose any alternatives. The company boasted of the complexity of its own solution, saying that no one could create similar solutions. But they could not answer the question why such solutions are needed, if they are noticeably more expensive than competitors, and also consume many times more energy, they could not. It was a decision for the sake of a decision, which allowed to flatter the ego of top management, to say that the company's engineers create solutions that have no analogues. And it was true, since there were no analogues, or rather, they were not in demand by the market.
