Incognito number: bad name for an interesting service

A virtual telephone number, which cannot be used to "hang up" a physical telephone set, but for the rent of which one has to pay non-virtual money - what is this? The service is provided by the company "CountryCom", www.alloincognito.ru, and the slightly intricate name "Incognito number" denotes a telephone number that does not belong to a specific device, designed to link all used voice communications into a single system. A useful thing or little-needed pampering? Let's figure it out.

Which of us at least once in our lives did not suffer from setting call forwarding on our mobile phone? And the garland of phone numbers on a business card? And what about the fat green toad, striving to strangle in a dream and in reality about an insanely expensive contract with a direct city number? And after all, you can’t run to another network when the number of customers calling to this number is measured by a three-digit figure! Not a single operator will allow you to “take away” your number with you either - for them it’s not even a piece of bread, but a fatty sandwich with caviar. Only allow the subscriber to leave along with the phone number, because it’s also necessary to appease contract servicemen! And here, too, real competition will appear, if it is not right ... But there will be a holiday on our street, not without reason in the depths of the Ministry of Communications a project is being considered to tie the entire numbering capacity to a monopoly intermediary. It just wouldn't work this time, "we wanted the best, but it turned out as always." However, we digress from the topic.

Main functionality of the service

"Incognito number" in combination with an intelligent platform allows you to forward all incoming calls to it to any other number - fixed MGTS or mobile. The idea is quite sensible: A telephone number (direct Moscow or "curved" in code 501) is purchased in the "CountryCom" company and distributed to clients/colleagues/friends, printed on business cards, etc. The main difficulty is answering questions like "Is this work, home or mobile?". All incoming calls to the number are redirected to the selected real (not virtual) phone number, you can - to several numbers with a given brute force sequence. The number of numbers simultaneously involved in the enumeration process is no more than three (for example, home-work-mobile). The key words here are "simultaneously involved", in total at least twenty different numbers can participate in this telephone carousel. The restriction on three numbers is primarily due to the dialing time, a normal person will not listen to long beeps for several minutes anyway. The waiting time for picking up the handset for each number from the list is configured individually and this process must be treated with due attention: too fast enumeration - we will not have time to pick up the phone, too long - the caller will get tired of listening to long beeps. Information about the number is transmitted in most cases correctly, i. on our determinant, we observe exactly the telephone number of the caller, and not the Unknown number or the gateway phone. You can forward calls not only to Moscow, but also to local, regional, mobile, foreign mobile, etc. phones, which is convenient when traveling (broadcast the call to the SIM card of a local operator abroad). Such calls will already be charged, but at quite humane rates.

The "physical" numbers themselves and the sequence of their enumeration are set via the web-interface on the "CountryCom" website, intervals according to the time of day are also set there. There is a notebook in which it makes sense to enter all the numbers used for forwarding. Notebook at first puzzling: at first glance, it has only one cell for entering the number. The trick is that the next free cell appears only after pressing the save information button, i.e. it will not work to drive in all the necessary phones at once and save everything "wholesale", you will have to enter / save one at a time. Well, you can be patient once. By the way, this feature of the notebook (as well as many other subtleties) is described in detail in the "Subscriber's Handbook", but will an advanced user get into some kind of handbook?

The desirability of Internet access is quite obvious, but even without a computer at hand, you can steer redirects using the voice service control menu. In absolutely hopeless cases, you can contact the round-the-clock subscriber service "CountryCom". It's hard to say whether it's good or bad (it depends on a particular person), but the process of configuring all "Incognito number" services is in the hands of the subscriber.

The web interface for managing the service is organized quite friendly, I liked the really intuitive ruler for setting time intervals. When mastering, you will have to tinker with the settings for some time, but for the second time everything becomes simple and understandable. With a temporary change in the schedule (vacation, business trip, cottage), it is absolutely not necessary to distort and then carefully restore all schedules - there is a Follow me function. When this mode is enabled, schedules are ignored, all calls are transferred to one number specified in the Follow me cell. After the mode is disabled, the forwarding mode is restored according to the schedule with a search of two or three numbers (if such a search is set).

Is it bad to dream?

Some "amenities" are clearly missing, maybe they will do it in the future? For example, it would be nice to be able to prepare for ourselves several running models of forwarding modes and, if necessary, switch between them with a couple of mouse clicks. Someone would be pleased with AON filters: for example, the ability to direct all calls from federal mobiles to a mobile phone, city calls to an office (secretary), and city calls from a certain list to a home phone. The "Black" and "White" list modes are provided and work, but I would like more flexibility: in vain, perhaps, is the platform called "intelligent"? I would like to have a PDA-adapted version of the web-interface for easy management of services on the go. A lot of potentially useful things can be invented and, perhaps, the capabilities of the platform will expand in the future.

Call from the system

When buying an "Incognito number" together with a MegaFon SIM card (unlimited MegaVIP tariff), all "incognito intelligence" is given as a gift and, importantly, when calling from a mobile the handset of the receiving party is determined by the incognito number. When calling from other phones, in order to correctly determine the incognito number, you will have to call through the system: system number - your incognito number - pin code - called number. It's freezing. True, one (main?) phone can be programmed in the system for caller ID authorization. Similarly, you can make calls abroad through the system, the director of "CountryCom" Sergey Ivanov (pictured) assures that the company's long-distance tariffs are quite competitive and comparable to the prices of IP operators. The cost of such calls is deducted from the general account and call data is present in the general detail.

Additional services

In addition to the "Black" and "White" lists, there is a "Do Not Disturb" mode - incoming calls do not go through at all or are forwarded to the voice mail box. The volume of the mailbox is small (10 minutes for all incoming messages), and when it is full, the left messages are sequentially erased, starting from the oldest. In some cases, such "intelligent" behavior of the system can do a disservice - the caller will be sure that his message has been received and listened to. But the message storage period is 100 (!) days. It would be nice to increase the volume of the voice mailbox four times, and at the same time provide for the possibility of disabling the automatic deletion of old messages when overflowed. There is a useful "Parallel dialing" mode, in which the incoming call is sent to all the numbers indicated in the list at the same time, and not by sequential enumeration. This feature is useful for those who regularly use SIM-cards of different operators. Call hold mode, conference calling, switching to a second line - a complete list and description of services can be found on the website.

Microtest results

Serious testing of all functions/services was not carried out, however, we played around with the incognito number for a couple of days. Really works and really convenient. Of the shortcomings (how could it be without them!) So far, only one glitch has been caught: a couple of times on the side of the caller, only two or three long beeps were heard (waiting time for an answer from the first number dialed by the system?), then - complete silence in the receiver, all that the time during which the system consecutively dialed the remaining two phones.

Marketing Issues

The service is still unusual for our country, most potential users are not even aware of such additional features. It is assumed that all varieties of "Incognito" will be sold by the largest networks of communication salons. The blissful picture drawn by Sergei Ivanov looked like this:

  1. A person passionately desiring to have such a single-universal number enters the CountryCom website and chooses a city or federal number that he likes (the list is posted)
  2. Calls the nearest salon and asks the manager to block the number he likes
  3. Comes to the salon, signs the contract and takes the incognito box.

Questions along the way:

    1. I wonder how a person finds out about the existence of such a service? And even if he hears out of the corner of his ear (he reads out of the corner of his eye), then the name "Incognito number" is unlikely to tell him anything
    2. In the salons themselves, information is also not very well owned (to put it mildly). I visited a couple of places personally, the result was not very encouraging. A large communication salon a hundred meters from the office of "CountryCom": the second employee guessed to send to the manager, who immediately said: "This is for those who need their number not to be determined. There are different options, it seems, from 20 to 200 dollars, must see." Anti-AON for $200? An interesting service, and most importantly - inexpensive. However, with minimal perseverance, the truth would certainly have been able to get to the bottom as a result. In a small salon in their native Voykovskaya, they did not hear about the incognito number at all, but they promised to find out (they were interested!) And offered to come in the next day.

    Resume

The service is aimed more at a business user, but, in principle, it can be useful to any more or less actively communicating person. But whether such an ordinary person wants to pay for a virtual number is a big question. A good solution for frequent business travelers, especially in combination with active international calls. Fans of constantly jumping between different mobile operators in search of cheap promotions / special offers would like such a number, but the subscription fee for using "incognita" is likely to eat up all the potential benefits of changing the operator. In general, you need to: 1) decide whether such a "single number" is needed 2) having decided what is needed, carefully calculate everything. And let's not forget that additional intermediate links on the communication line in any case do not add reliability to the connection.

When you buy an "Incognito number" along with a MegaFon SIM card (unlimited MegaVIP tariff), all "incognito intelligence" is given as a gift and, importantly, when calling from a mobile handset, the incognito number is determined by the receiving party.
